My New Home!
After 8 years and many adventures at 927 Vernon Ave I've decided to sell and move downtown for a more minimalist urban adventure! On October 29th 2008 I sold 927 Vernon and bought a condo at 4th and Broad! Woohoo!
ZSR Votes
A dozen librarians voted (guess who we voted for?) and then we went to Foothills Brewery for lunch! All in all a very productive day!

Giz Models the Backpack
I ran for an hour for the ZSR Library team in this week's "Hit the Bricks" fundraiser for the Brian Piccolo Cancer Fund. Let me tell you, 15lbs of sand is heavy when you only weigh a buck and a quarter!

Hope Floats
Beginnings are scary, endings are usually sad, but it's the middle that counts the most. Try to remember that when you find yourself at a new beginning. Just give hope a chance to float up. And it will... -Birdee Pruitt, from the film "Hope Floats"

Equal Affection
When we seek for connection, we restore the world to wholeness. Our seemingly separate lives become meaningful as we discover how truly necessary we are to each other. -Margaret Wheatley
Loading the Old Furniture from ZSR
Friday morning was spent loading a truck with 12 huge 10ft long tables and dozens of chairs! The old current periodicals room is starting to look nice and clear for the new furniture that arrives in September!

Giz's New Office
My new office! As a member of the newly formed Research, Instruction and Technology Services Team, my office moved from the ITC Computer Lab to Reference! I really like my new space and my new neighbors!

"If equal affection cannot be, Let the more loving one be me."
-W.H. Auden, "The More Loving One"
Uhm, what the hell was Auden thinking? I mean really, the "more loving one" gets their ass kicked and their head handed to them on a platter. Is equal affection even possible?
The good news is that later in the poem Auden says that even if you are the "more loving one" and you lose something, you get over it....eventually.

Idle Thought
“Don't wish me happiness-I don't expect to be happy it's gotten beyond that, somehow. Wish me courage and strength and a sense of humor-I will need them all.” -Anne Morrow Lindbergh

When the Southeastern Library Network, SOLINET, wanted to announce it was going green and moving to a stronger web presence and less print, they sent out a postcard made of recycled paper containing flower seeds. I'll be planting this paper in a flower pot and enjoying the resulting flowers all summer long! What a great idea! I wish all my bulk mail had flower seeds!
I think its usually referred to as "seed paper" or "plantable paper"

Here is a link to a place that sells similar seed paper!

New Backyard Landscaping
Thanks to "Gardens by David" my backyard isn't going to look so sparse this year! I can't wait till the pine needles go down and the plants start blooming! It is finally going to look like someone lives there!

When you are 5'4" and 125, finding a skinny shirt off the rack is a big deal! And they were on sale! SCORE!

Bikram Yoga in the Castro
I've become very fond of my weekly Bikram hot yoga class. So while I was on vacation in San Francisco, I had to find a studio close to my Bed and Breakfast! The Bikram studio in Winston Salem is MUCH bigger and nicer than this one in San Francisco!

Lifeguard Stand
Unfortunately no hot lifeguard eye candy! This was the story of my trip, Delta was a nightmare to travel, but still had a great time while I was there. I'm just not sure I'm up to gay vacations.

Preach it Terri!
Don't tell me the reason that you're calling
Is to see if I'm all right since you've been gone
'Cause I know you and I know why we're talking
You're wanting me to say I'm barely hanging on
Well, maybe that was true for a night or two
But now, I got better things to do

An optimist stays up until midnight to see the new year in. A pessimist stays up to make sure the old year leaves.
- Bill Vaughan
It has been a long year full of events I never thought I'd see and some events I never thought I would survive. 2007, it is time for you to go! 2008, be kind to me.

My Cup Runneth Over....
Okay, yes it was a long week in Georgia, but it was great to spend time with my Dad, Darlene and Shirley and to see the rest of my extended family. Everyone was happy and healthy. My cup runneth over.

Times Square-McDonald's
I LOVE this McDonald's. I'm sure you can see it from space!
(I don't actually eat there, I just like to look at it!)

Broadway on Strike! No theatre for Giz and Ann on this trip!
Even a strike on Broadway that canceled our play couldn't dampen our spirits! If you can't find something else to do in Manhattan, well then you just aren't trying! (We went shopping instead!)

"And here's to the ones who just watch--Aren't they the best?
When they get depressed, It's a bottle of Scotch, Plus a little jest.
Another chance to disapprove, Another brilliant zinger,
Another reason not to move, Another vodka stinger.
I'll drink to that."

Helen and Katie at the Village Tavern!
I had a lovely lunch today with two friends I had not seen in years! (And they are both holding up better than me!) Helen, Katie, Brenda and I had some great fun at WFU back in the big 1980's

Dennis after 13 miles on the Greenway and around Salem Lake
Note there is not a photo of me. I don't look this good after 13 miles. (I should mention that Scott, who was biking with us, looked equally good!) These two are going to either get me in shape or kill me!

Scott and Dennis at 6th and Vine
Shocking as it may seem, once in a while I do manage to actually get out of the house and see some friends. (I'm not even going to elaborate on what Scott and Dennis were talking about ;-)
